Our obsession with Ray Gibbz seems to grow with every listen. We last featured Ray as he embarked on a cosmic quest for identity with the intergalactic and cinematic single, Royal Ruby, so naturally, we wanted to share Ray’s latest release, Hope and Need.
Hope and Need opens with a super dimensional synthscape with glitched design, evolving into a more meditative state with an atmospheric melody as Ray Gibbz invites us to listen, and shares the prose, “I′m the storm in your heart, I’m lightning in a wire, sicko like a dragon breathing motherfucking fire. I fucking tear through your problems, slash ′em like samurai, turn a mess to a masterpiece, watch your worries die…”
Once again, we are enamoured by Ray’s poetic depth, and his cinematic knack for storytelling. He continues, “I’m the ghost in the circuit, the glitch that fights back, metaphorically dropping nukes on your mental stack, I’m the motherfucking map and the maze of frustration, GPS to your goals, no need for hesitation…”
The lyricism is truly outstanding, and delivered in such a chill way. Ray reminds us that he is a superhero. Ultimately, Hope and Need is about resilience, ambition and transformation.
Ray transmutes suffering into strength, and presents himself as a powerful, mythical figure who has survived poverty, hardship and opposition by instead relying on hope, faith and an unbreakable will. This is a common theme in his artistry, and with every track, we are left feeling inspired.

The repeated contrast between “need” and “hope” represents the tension between desperation and aspiration. In essence, “need” is portrayed as a dark force that creates hunger, pain, and pressure, whilst “hope” serves as the light that gives us purpose, direction, and the ability to escape.
All in all, it is an anthem of self-belief and perseverance. It shows us that even when life feels like a prison, hope can provide the key to freedom. It’s philosophical hip-hop at its best.
Speaking on the release, the rising San Diego artist says, “I wrote this trying to express what I’m going through right now, as it pertains to my family, my rap career [and] the pressure that comes with that, and my drive to reach greatness. I wrote this from my heart it’s real it’s my story, my journey. I don’t speak from inexperience everything you hear is something I actually experienced and went through.”
We love the track and how it makes us feel, and have added Need and Hope to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Ray Gibbz, and anticipate future releases!
