Drawing us in with a glitched vocalization, expanding into a vibrant and dimensional nu-disco soundscape featuring ad-libs, Eddie Nolann opens Turn Off My Name with intrigue, poetic prowess, and situational, vulnerable prose.
We immediately connect with the visual universe that manifests with the song, and the journey that Eddie Nolann is taking us on. This is further enhanced by the epic, animated music video that accompanies the track.
Eddie’s vocal range is sublime and the production is flawless. In essence, Turn Off My Name is a very intelligently written song that explores the paradoxical desire to disappear into music in order to rise as one’s true self. It’s empowering, and the escapism that we all need in the face of so many of the world’s issues.
Sonically, the track is highly zeitgeist and fans of Madonna’s current Confessions 2 era, and Dua Lipa will be able to connect with what Eddie Nolann is creating. There is a French allure that comes to life as well, reflective of Eddie’s heritage; and fans of Ottawan would also be able to vibe with Turn Off My Name.
We learn that the composition is driven by an irresistible 124 BPM groove, and features warm analog-inspired synthesizers to accompany Eddie’s transcendental vocals ranging from a deep, intimate register to a soaring falsetto.
Written, composed, arranged, and performed by Eddie Nolann, Turn Off My Name reflects more than a decade of his artistic evolution. Eddie shares how it draws inspiration from the golden era of French electronic music whilst maintaining a contemporary identity. It definitely has that futuristic nu-disco vibe that is reflected in the artwork and music video.
