The Energy Whores project has been on a roll. The conceptual band, fronted by the genius Carrie Schoenfeld, has consistently been delivering thought-provoking artistry, and their latest opus, Planet B – from its title alone – was guaranteed to be another visionary string to their bow. Naturally we couldn’t wait to listen.
Planet B opens with a signature Energy Whores vibe with a dimensional bass performance and textured percussion before Carrie shares the lyrics, “A toothy terabyte took a bite in the side of time, star lights, above me are bent by gravities eyes, I lay in the snow, white crystals blow against the black sky…”
The sound design is trippy and psychedelic. And the message? Well, it is a poetic and futuristic reflection on humanity’s place in the universe. The lyrics blend cosmic imagery with technological metaphors.
In essence, it explores themes of environmental fragility, isolation and existential uncertainty. This feels super zeitgeist and a reflection on where we are all at emotionally right now. This is truly something that Carrie does best – she taps into current public sentiment and creates tracks that comment on our shared existence and the human expression.
The repeated refrain “There is no Planet B…” serves as a warning about Earth’s uniqueness and the consequences of treating our home as replaceable. References to telescopes searching for life suggest that life elsewhere might be hard., and the concept of the “angry motherboard” and lost data symbolize the breakdown of human systems, knowledge and control.
All in all, it is a cautionary meditation on human existence in the cosmos. Something that we all need to be reminded of now and again! We could imagine it being featured in a TV show like PLUR1BUS on Apple TV.

Speaking on her artistry, Carrie tells us, “Planet B is a song born out of frustration, anxiety, and disbelief at humanity’s ongoing failure to confront climate change. Everywhere we look, people talk about escaping to Mars, building bunkers, or finding technological solutions to problems we’ve created ourselves. Meanwhile, the only truly habitable planet we know of is the one we’re actively damaging.”
The talented creator continues, “Musically, I wanted to create something beautiful, cinematic, and immersive while delivering a message that feels increasingly urgent. I write songs that challenge assumptions and encourage people to think about the world around them.”
We are grateful for Energy Whores‘s altruism and have added Planet B to our New Music Spotlight and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Energy Whores, and anticipate future releases!
