Establishing the mood with a rippling drum riff, expanding into an astral, psychedelic-blues-rock guitar performance, Michael Vdelli and The Art Of Dysfunction open You And The Blues with dimensionality and cinematic allure.
Michael shares a brooding vocal as he sings, “When the lighthouse beam swept across the ocean, that was me out there waving, sinking in slow motion, and in my time, out of the spotlight, I saw only stormy seas, monsters and potions…”. We immediately connect with the poetic prowess, metaphorical depth and intentionality of the prose. It is an empowering opus about surviving pain, guilt, isolation, and self-destruction, and ultimately emerging stronger.
There is no doubt that You And The Blues would be perfect for a sync placement in a movie like Sinners or Song Sung Blue. We could also imagine the track being featured in a poignant scene of the new season of Euphoria on HBO.
The build of the track and Michael’s delivery are sublime. We learn that the track features Michael Vdelli on guitar and vocals as he showcases his soulful tone, intelligent songwriting, commanding stage presence, and decades of blues mastery. Alongside him, the band consists of Michael Menna on guitar, songwriting and contributing heavily to the overall sound of the track, Kelly McCarthy on bass, whilst Royce Mack delivers a powerful performance on drums.

The key changes add drama, and the instrumental interludes are exquisite. Fans of The Eagles and Carlos Santana will definitely be able to connect with the emotional frequency of You And The Blues. The guitar solo leads through to a playful bass interlude, a tempo switch-up, and a dimensional build that is truly transcendental – akin to a spiritual awakening with an epic outro that leaves us yearning for more.
Needless to say, we are blown away by Michael Vdelli and The Art Of Dysfunction, and have added You And The Blues to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Michael Vdelli and The Art Of Dysfunction‘s debut single, Things Inside.
