Drawing us in with the title of the track and an alt-country-meets-soft-rock hybrid soundscape, Lancaster Rayne opens I Don’t Wanna Love You with vocalizations of the lyrics, “I don’t wanna love you anymore…” repeating like a mantra of self-preservation.
“I want my life like it was before… I wanna sleep all day, stay out all night, go out to a bar and get into a fight, I wanna do what I want whenever I wanna do it…” shares Lancaster Rayne with a timeless energy, tapping into power-pop chords and a high emotional quotient.
We deeply connect with the notions of escapism and liberation. Staying in unfulfilling relationships is not ideal, and the message of the song resonates on a super relatable level. Sonically, the production is flawless and holds an undeniable cinematic allure. There is no doubt that I Don’t Wanna Love You would be perfect for a sync placement in the current season of Euphoria on HBO – possibly a scene with Nate as he reflects on his relationship with Cassie.

Fans of Dwight Yoakam and Buddy Holly would also be able to connect with the vibe that manifests on I Don’t Wanna Love You, with its fusion of twang-heavy guitar lines, driving rhythms and bittersweet melodic hooks. The track most certainly recalls the golden era of rockabilly and classic country crossover with a bit of Buddy Holly’s melodic charm, whilst the emotional undercurrent feels reminiscent of Dwight Yoakam.
We learn that Lancaster Rayne is seeking to carve out a distinctive space in the country music landscape from his home base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He creates his songs from a private studio to design what he calls a “Modern Bakersfield” sound with an “authentic Telecaster twang”.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added I Don’t Wanna Love You to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Lancaster Rayne, including his debut single, Twangin’ Guitars.
