Drawing us in with a bold drum riff and funk-adjacent guitar soundscape, BADSQUATCH opens Move with optimism, dimensionality and ad-libs of “hey hey hey”. The opus expands with intricacy and vibrancy as we are taken on an introspective journey with the opening prose, “Life’s a mess, you’re tryin’ your best, everybody just brings more stress, will you run, will you hide, it’s up to you to decide…”
We immediately connect with BADSQUATCH‘s breathy and captivating timbre. The lyrics are relatable and hold a zeitgeist reflection, in line with how so many of us feel today. BADSQUATCH shares his wisdom with the hook, “Get up and move, get up and move, find your groove, just get up and move…”
Fundamentally, the kinetic energy that BADSQUATCH inspires is a tale as old as time. It aligns with the philosophical adages of “If we were meant to stay in one place, we’d have roots instead of feet…”, and “Motion is lotion…”, designed to tap into movement, dance and exercise as a form of healing and distraction.
The song serves as an upbeat pep talk about pushing through stress and frustration by letting go. BADSQUATCH invites us to dance, finding joy and release in the moment. Its message is simple: life is overwhelming sometimes, but instead of shutting down or hiding, get up, move, and reconnect with yourself through music and energy.
We learn that Move was inspired by a difficult period in BADSQUATCH’s life when he was dealing with heartbreak and focusing on improving his mental and physical health. During that time, he lost weight and used music as a conduit for the healing process. We deeply appreciate how he is now sharing this with us through the lens of an 80s workout aesthetic.
Move was recorded at Topetitud Estudios in early 2022 as part of a fourteen-track album written and recorded in just two weeks. Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Move to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream BADSQUATCH‘s debut single, Such a Burden.
