We last featured Adrielle Bow Belle’s Carry On, which served as a sonic journey of resilience, empowerment, and self-discovery back in December 2024, so when we heard that the star was back with ICEY ROADS, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to share our experience.
ICEY ROADS opens with a neo-soul meets pop guitar soundscape and ethereal ad-libs as Adrielle shares an epic delivery of what is going down in the United States right now with the poignant and poetic prose, “No, no, no no, shut the door, get inside, close the blinds, icy roads when the whistle blow, they ain’t gotta warrant, gotta gotta warn em, it’s a cold war, shut the door, it’s a cold, cold war… at home…”
First and foremost, our minds are blown with Adrielle’s delicate yet high-octane delivery. Her return to music this year feels important and inspired. She says, “ICEY ROADS isn’t about reenacting trauma. It’s about tracing the systems that create it the coldness that isn’t weather, but policy.”
In essence, ICEY ROADS captures a sharply current ICE-related narrative. It turns immigration raids into a portrait of fear, surveillance, and family separation. There is no doubt that what Adrielle is sharing is central to the political zeitgeist.

The repeated images of doors shutting, whistles blowing, and people being taken “door to door” make enforcement feel immediate and personal. Her songwriting is direct and chant-like, using repetition and stark lines for impact.
Like Bob Dylan’s Hurricane, it works as protest songwriting rooted in injustice. Thought whilst Dylan’s approach was detailed and journalistic, ICEY ROADS feels intentionally urgent, placing us inside the panic. It also has a vibe not dissimilar from Teddy Swims‘ Lose Control.
Her songwriting is genius and Adrielle truly has us in our emotions. The ad-libs and layered vocals add dimensionality to the piece, whilst the metaphorical depth and art as activism alongside a pristine, genre-expansive soundscape is nothing short of masterful.
We have added ICEY ROADS to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Adrielle Bow Belle, including the A Cappella Version of the song, plus Breaking News, and Carry On.
