Establishing the mood with bold and rhythmic piano chords, an intricate harp melody and cosmic vocalizations, Crunch opens Lost for Words with drama and an assertive yet ethereal energy. The piano switches into an 80s-adjacent synth performance with immersive, atmospheric textures before we experience a psychedelic, emotive hook.
Crunch shares the assertive and self-reflective opening prose, “I was down bad, we had every word in the book, now you can’t come up with one? Let me cook… Strike, time from my life you took… and to your family and friends, you act like I’m the crook…”
We are enthralled by the overarching hypnotic soundscape and Crunch‘s evocative and poignant delivery, reminding us of some of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time including Warren G, Nas, and Nate Dogg. We appreciate his poetic prowess and the ebbs and flows between the surrealist choruses and Crunch‘s epic verses. The track also holds a cinematic allure, and we could imagine it being featured in a TV show like Beauty in Black on Netflix.

We learn that Crunch is a hip hop artist from Los Angeles with many years of music industry experience. He worked closely with Tupac Shakur as his stand-in and double in films like Poetic Justice, Above the Rim, and Menace II Society (although his scenes were cut). He also appeared in Tupac’s music videos for I Get Around and Keep Your Head Up.
Crunch says working with Tupac taught him a lot about the music business. He also helped early in the career of Guy Oseary, who later became Madonna’s manager, and worked with a young Christina Milian by featuring her in his Turn It Up video when she was 13.
There is no doubt that Lost for Words serves as an important step in Crunch‘s career after signing with SoundPulse Record Label. After releasing four albums and two mixtapes, Crunch is now focused on bringing his own voice to the forefront.
We love the energy he delivers on Lost for Words and have added the track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we anticipate future releases from the re-rising star!
