We previously featured Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard for inviting us to shift perspective and let the change come from within with the evocative and poetic debut single, A New Moon, so when we heard that Joseph Turner was back with Travelin’ Heart, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in his universe once again.
Travelin’ Heart opens with an ethereal delivery of the title of the track, expanding into a glistening guitar-driven soundscape before we experience the lyrics, “Movin’ down a lonely road, through the woods of great concern, believing I’m just for a while, for the night we ride out to burn…”
We immediately connect with the philosophical energy that comes to life and the poetic prowess that Joseph Turner shares. The evolution of the track into the hook is sublime, as Joseph sings, “A travelin’ heart, a wondering soul, the freedom surrounds me baby, taking control, and it’s you, high on a mountain, and it’s you, keep my eye on the mountain…”
Speaking on the concept of Travelin’ Heart, Joseph explains, “The song explores travel as both a physical escape and an inner journey, leaving behind weight and rediscovering clarity through movement. It blends intimate, atmospheric verses with more expansive moments, creating a sense of progression that mirrors that emotional shift.”

We absolutely love the journey and the instrumentation is incredible, especially the stepped-back and shimmering middle eight which invites introspection. We could imagine this in a spiritual road trip movie like Into the Wild, The Motorcycle Diaries, or Wild. Fans of Noah Kahan, Zach Top, Riley Green and Lana Del Rey‘s Ultraviolence era would be able to connect with Travelin’ Heart, but there is no doubt that Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard are creating an authentic and organic sonic universe unto their own design.
On the creative process, Joseph confesses, “Initial ideas were captured on a phone during a road trip along the East Coast, before being developed further in a home studio and brought to life with live drums and pedal steel contributions recorded across different locations. The track was later mastered in Nashville.”
Needless to say, we continue to be in awe of what Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard are creating, and have added Travelin’ Heart to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream A New Moon and anticipate future releases from the project!
