Drawing us in with an atmospheric piano performance featuring hypnotic arpeggios, expanding into rippling astral keys, Trond Flaata opens Ide 1A with intricacy and repeated motifs manifesting a sentiment of calm and inviting us to connect with notions of nature.
We appreciate the timelessness of the composition and the subtle tempo shifts. There is no doubt that Trond Flaata is gifted with instrumental mastery, and we deeply connect with the expertise and raw authenticity that transmutes with the composition.
Ide 1A feels both uplifting and cinematic. We could imagine the composition in a film like 2001’s Amélie (Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain) which was famously scored by French musician Yann Tiersen. It would also be a great score for a film like Coda, or a Luca Guadagnino production.
Speaking on the release, Trond Flaata, who hails from Norway, confesses, “This is my first release in a modern piano project focused on calm, loop-based compositions. The piece is built around a simple repeating melody that forms the foundation for the entire track, reflected in the title Ide (Norwegian for “idea”).”
The rising composer adds, “My background in rock, jazz and electronic music, along with a strong influence from video game soundtracks, shapes the way I approach the piano and gives the music a slightly different perspective. The goal is to create music that feels both simple and expressive. Something that can be actively listened to, or quietly exist in the background for focus, reflection, or relaxation.”
Needless to say, we feel imbued with calm thanks to the meditative composition, and have added Ide 1A to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from the talented, Norwegian composer.
