Drawing us in with an astral organ soundscape with glistening nuances, inebaro open Alike with ethereal vocals as they share the words, “All the while you′re saying this and that, I’m going mad, possibly insane, and out of mind, or I′m a painter, round and round…”
We are immediately enthralled and hypnotized by the production, the vocal timbre and delivery. In essence, the song explores a shared sense of confusion and emotional overwhelm between two people.
They are stuck in the same uncertain situation, mentally exhausted and trapped in a loop of overthinking and mixed signals. There is a plea for clarity and direction, yet neither party has the answers.
There is a common ground when it comes to navigating their shared reality as both search for meaning. The presence of a mutual vulnerability feels kinda wholesome, especially with lines like, “I’m just like you…”. They’re together, on a metaphorical boat, but drifting, suspended between moving forwards and feeling lost.

Speaking on the message, the British duo confess, “This song is about self reflection, navigating paranoia, and finding hope.” The glitch-pop design is psychedelic and sublime, and we feel transported even though the themes of the song are quite introspective. We could imagine it being featured in a TV show like Heated Rivalry or Euphoria, or perhaps a Luca Guadagnino or Sofia Coppola film.
We learn that inebaro are London-based, consisting of bandmates Ollie and Haneef, who formed their collaboration three years ago after meeting at music school. Alike was produced at their home studio, and inebaro cite James Blake, Christine and the Queens, Jockstrap, Underscores, Alt-J, and Aphex Twin as sonic influences, although there is no doubt that they are manifesting a sound of their own design.
We have added Alike to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of inebaro, including their debut single, Stand-Up, and their sophomore single, Just Us.
