Establishing the mood with a cerebral soundscape, akin to tripping into a psychedelic dimension, PJD opens On New Horizons with a high spiritual quotient. The opus expands with astral bell tones and sitar inflections before a textured beat and existential lyrics.
We appreciate the poetic prowess and the introspective depth that manifests. The hypnotic soundscape is aligned with the overarching message of the track, rooted in notions of the perpetual search for something better beyond the next horizon.
PJD says, “On New Horizons is about always looking at the next horizon and hoping there is something better on the other side, which is not always the case, but living in hope of this keeps us moving forward. The song itself is attempting to take the listener on that journey to the new horizon where they may find something better!” With reference to his upcoming album, he adds, “Many subjects are tackled on the New Religion album from people’s obsession with wealth and power, to a friend lost in the LA wildfires of 2024/25, to staying in control when all about you is falling apart to searching for your lost dreams! A very diverse album in many ways but always an underbelly of hope!”

Speaking on the sound design and recording process, PJD adds, “This recording was done in a very traditional way to attempt to create as near a live sound as possible trying to create the kind of excitement generated by hearing live performances, as such most of the recording was done in the same manner as it would be for a live performance!”
There is no doubt that the song holds a cinematic allure, perfect for a trippy TV show like Nine Perfect Strangers or PLUR1BUS. We can also imagine this being performed at Burning Man, Coachella, or a special set at Secret Garden Party.
We appreciate the dimensionality of the composition, as well as the philosophical depth. We have added On New Horizons to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of PJD, including Walking the Tightrope, and The Other Side of You.
