We previously featured Chloe Jessica, when Chloe and her bandmates shared a high emotional quotient with their poignant yet relatable debut single, The Middle, so when we heard that the project was back with the evocatively titled, Bitch in a Dress, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in their universe once more.
Bitch in a Dress opens with a drum riff and bold guitar soundscape as Chloe shares observational lyrics about the muse of the track. Immediately, we are captivated by the assertive and subversive nature of the lyrics. Laced with sass and poetic prowess, and perfect for fans of Hole and early No Doubt, though Chloe cites Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and Kelly Clarkson as sonic influences.
There is a 90s timelessness that manifests with the production and delivery. The stripped back middle-eight invites introspection, whilst what Chloe shares feels contemporary, relatable, and zeitgeist in many ways.
Chloe sings, “I’m a bitch but I showed up, I could be loud but I gave a fuck, call me a liar, but I told you the truth…” which resonates with themes of raw authenticity and radical honesty. Speaking on the release, Chloe enthusiastically tells us, “I am so excited. It feels honest and sarcastic and encompasses authenticity in a song. From writing it in my bedroom to tirelessly crafting it with my band, I have never been prouder of a song.”

It’s refreshing to experience a young, rising band that is so plugged into empowerment and creating an uplifting message with a slightly subversive edge. It’s inspiring to see Chloe’s vision come to life in this manner, and we could imagine Bitch in a Dress being featured in an episode of Euphoria‘s upcoming season on HBO, or a film like Do Revenge on Netflix.
Chloe Jessica is based in Birmingham, West Midlands, studying at BIMM University. She fronts her four-piece band creating pop music that is designed to fuse country, blues, rock, and R&B. We love what she is creating, and have added Bitch in a Dress to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream The Middle, and anticipate future releases from Chloe Jessica.
