Drawing us in with an intricate electric guitar soundscape, expanding with textured drums and a magnetic, astral solo, Delta Fire open Eyes Burn Gold with a high emotional quotient and atmospheric vocals.
We appreciate the alternative rock meets grunge hybrid adjacency and the poetic prowess that manifests. The lyrics feel relatable but simultaneously universally zeitgeist, serving as a poignant societal commentary on the current state of reality.
The instrumental performances are masterful, building into an anthemic and cohesive tapestry of sound, leading to an epic, high-octane guitar solo with shimmering nuances for the finale. There is certainly a cinematic allure to the piece, which would be perfect for sync placements in a fantasy film, or a scene at The Bronze if they ever do reboot Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Fans of The Smashing Pumpkins would love this too.
Speaking on the release, Delta Fire confess, “As a band, inspiration is pulled from all sorts of places. There is a very clear Caspian influence, with the airiness opening into poignant lyricism, striking a literal chord that ties in a near psychedelic feeling, expertly delivered by Liam in his signature rasping tone. The drums are driving throughout, and although ballad-esque, there is a 60s, Cream and Jefferson Airplane nature that gives an openness to the track, pushing on themes that make the listener sit in eager anticipation of where the story goes. Aidan’s bass tone is massive on the track, pulling everything together and making your trousers rumble. When writing the main body of the track, Liam took inspiration from fantasy realms. We wanted to create a track that feels as at home alongside the soundtrack to Elden Ring as it does beside anthemic psychedelic tracks.”

We learn that the band is comprised of four members from Glasgow in Scotland. The lineup features Kieron McManus on vocals and lead guitar, Liam McLaughlin on vocals and rhythm guitar, Aidan Spencer on bass, and Andrew Knox-Watson on drums and percussion. The track was recorded at the historic Chem 19 recording studio, where Franz Ferdinand, Deacon Blue and Calvin Harris recorded some of their hits.
Delta Fire passionately say, “Chem 19 is a brilliant studio. The live rooms are huge and allow for us to recreate the live gig experience in a more controlled environment. The studio is packed to the rafters with vintage and anolog gear which we got to take advantage of. We are sure you can recreate the sound of vintage gear, through USSR microphones into an analogue desk with Plug-ins – however nothing can match doing it for real.”
As you can tell, we are in awe, and have added Eyes Burn Gold to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Delta Fire‘s debut single, Lady Danger, and anticipate future releases from the band.
