Drawing us in with a dark-wave guitar soundscape featuring dimensional drums and astral tones, Andy Mclaughlan opens What Will You Say with a cinematic allure and the lyrics, “Hey what will you say to one more night of pleasure…”
We immediately imagine What Will You Say locking in a multitude of sync placements, perhaps a sequel to Blade, a scene at The Bronze if they ever reboot Buffy The Vampire Slayer, or a recreation of Cruel Intentions.
The track oozes charisma. We love the poetic prowess that Andy exudes, and his captivating timbre. His metaphorical and philosophical depth is tangible, but it’s also his narrative-driven storytelling that really brings the track to life. The rising artist from Glasgow, Scotland confesses, “I wanted this track to capture a very specific mood – that feeling of looking back and questioning everything. It’s dark, but honest.”

Fans of The Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, Bush, The Cure, and Placebo would be able to connect with What Will You Say, but the uniqueness really comes through with Andy’s spoken word middle-eight, poignant, unmistakably Scottish and fierce.
The remainder of the track taps into a dark psychedelia vibe leading us through to an epic finale, which leaves us yearning for more. Needless to say, we are completely enamoured by the release, and have added What Will You Say to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream Andy Mclaughlan‘s debut single, If I Be Damned.
