We previously featured Exzenya when she showed us how influence is not granted, but it is earned, with her evocative rap single, International Power, so when we heard that the visionary rising artist was back with The Fans Applauded, our curiosity was piqued!
The Fans Applauded opens with a vinyl texture and an emotive and cinematic piano soundscape featuring subtle static frequency as Exzenya sings, “Through the people packed in concert halls, I sat in silence and stared at walls, I didn’t know what I was doing, panic set in when I was supposed to be singing, people there to hear me sing, people there without knowing, the fear that lied within my own skin, when I was supposed to begin, frozen me in…”
We immediately connect with the stripped-back energy, and how Exzenya‘s voice truly shines through as she shares a more vulnerable side and a striking sense of isolation. The arrangement feels deliberately spacious, and this allows her voice to truly carry the emotive nature of the narrative.
