Establishing the mood with a meditative energy and astral saxophone riffs, DONELLI A.I. ENSEMBLE opens Madiba with dimensionality and cinematic allure. The jazz-adjacent opus expands with textured drums which are both intricate and dynamic, featuring choral ad-lib vocalizations akin to African tribal chants.
We appreciate the vibrancy of the composition and the uplifting sentiment that manifests. There is no doubt that the track would be a perfect fit for a Black Panther sequel or perhaps Woman King. The detail of the instrumentation is exquisite, creating a cohesive and hypnotic tapestry of sound.
The creative ebbs and flows of the composition are refined, keeping us enthralled throughout. The drum segues with chanted vocals are captivating. As a cultural note, Nelson Mandela was called Madiba because it is his traditional Thembu clan name, used as a sign of deep affection, respect, and familiarity by South Africans. Madiba was also the 19th-century Thembu chief from the Transkei region from whom Mandela is descended. It represents his Xhosa heritage and is a revered, popular nickname. DONELLI A.I. ENSEMBLE really does this justice.

We learn that Massimo Donelli, an Italian musician at heart, after a career spent in journalism, now dedicates himself fully to music. Over time, he has crafted jazz fusion, world, and progressive rock pieces, sometimes in collaboration with other artists, and sometimes on his own, using keyboards, samplers, and DAW software. Today, these compositions, along with new creations, are being reworked and arranged with the help of artificial intelligence.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Madiba to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of DONELLI A.I. ENSEMBLE, including the entirety of his album, El Camino de la Vida.
