We last featured Lera Shemi when she captured notions of heartbreak and inner transformation with her evocative sophomore single, i should just let yoU go, so naturally, we couldn’t wait to shine a light on her latest release, call you by your namE.
The track opens with a super subversive bassline with cerebral sonic intricacies, tapping into a mind-altering, industrial, neuro-plasticity enhancing energy. The lyrics “I’d like to call you by your name…” repeat like a mantra, as Lera shares her captivating vocals with us, intercut with smashing glass and breathy ad-libs.
There is no doubt that call you by your namE is highly experimental, it’s almost haunting, and evolves with a melodic riff and the shattering sounds that take us through to the finale. We appreciate the dimensionality of the track, which definitely leaves us yearning for more as it comes in at a mere one minute and thirty five seconds.

Of course, this is designed to support the narrative of Lera Shemi‘s self-produced 12-track concept album, You & Me & HER. The capital letter this time is E, which follows the D and U from her previous tracks. She says, “The album unfolds like a case file: 12 songs, 12 chapters, a hidden letter in each title that spells out a sentence no one will decode until the final track drops.”
As for the track itself, Lera tells us, “This one is more intimate. Saying someone’s name out loud is its own kind of reckoning.” Fans of Charli xcx, Slayyyter, and Ashnikko will be able to vibe with Lera’s universe.
As always, we are obsessed and keen to see the rest of the album unfold in “due” time! We have added call you by your namE to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream Lera Shemi‘s wider discography, including i should just let yoU go, and such a gooD boy.
