Establishing the mood with a dimensional and anthemic soundscape with an intricate, folk-rock adjacency, Valkyrie’s Bard opens MOVEMENT with a cinematic energy and the thought-provoking, metaphorical lyrics, “They built the walls inside your sleep, laid the bricks while you were dreaming, poured the fog into the deep, make you doubt what you were feeling…”
We immediately connect with the poetic prowess that Valkyrie’s Bard, also known as artist Sarah Miller, is sharing. The track would be perfect for a multitude of sync placements, perhaps a future Dune film or even a sequel to Game of Thrones.
The prose has a personal energy but also a universal message, which feels highly zeitgeist in today’s political and social climate. We love the chanted ad libs and the generated vocals definitely feel emotionally human.
Speaking on her artistic progression, Sarah confesses, “I grew up trained in classical piano and voice, left music at sixteen, spent fifteen years as a tattooist, and came back to songwriting in my late thirties when watching events in the world became too much to bear.”

She adds on a cathartic note, “Songwriting gave me an outlet and maybe a way to help others going through the same thing. Movement is a dark pop anthem about collective awakening – grief as instrument, voice as frequency, the moment people stop feeling alone in it. It moves from sparse and intimate to full and epic.”
Valkyrie’s Bard cites influences including Chappell Roan, Lady Gaga, and folk roots, which are definitely apparent, although it is clear that Valkyrie’s Bard is generating a conscious energy with her prose that feels unique.
Needless to say, we appreciate the awe-inspiring sound that Valkyrie’s Bard has coded, and have added MOVEMENT to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream Valkyrie’s Bard‘s wider discography, including Break the Crown, Wake the Bones, and Ahmed’s Soul.
