Drawing us in with a mysterious guitar soundscape, Moon Construction Kit opens Snake Charmer with intrigue and cinematic allure before sharing poetic prowess with atmospheric vocals. We are immediately enamoured by the soundscape, and could imagine the track being played at Cirque Gitane on the rooftop of Petit Ermitage in West Hollywood – the home to psychedelic, cinematic tracks like this.
The instrumental mastery is undeniable, and we love the glistening guitars, brooding bass notes and slurred Mellotron notions that result in a cohesive and dimensional tapestry of sound. As for the prose, there is a relatability at play, but also metaphorical depth with a high emotional quotient.
Speaking on the release, Switzerland’s Moon Construction Kit confesses, “With Snake Charmer, I was aiming for a vibe that feels like a fairground at night, something beautiful but a little bit haunting. I used a crystalline, glassy piano and Mellotron to give it that lush, 60s psych-pop sound, but the lyrics are actually quite clinical.”

Lausanne-based writer, singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Olivier Cornu continues, “It’s about that moment where you realise the cure you’re following, whether it’s a person or a pill, is actually the problem. By the time the Big Pharma mantra kicks in at the end, I wanted the whole song to feel like a machine that’s finally started to spiral out of control.”
There is no doubt that the track would also be perfect for a multitude of sync placements, notably a Sofia Coppola or Luca Guadagnino film. The build of the track is sublime and euphoric, and the repeated hooks for the finale are absolutely captivating, and definitely do feel like a mantra.
Needless to say, we are absolutely in awe, and have added Snake Charmer to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Moon Construction Kit including Chemicals, Turquoise Arcadia, and Stanley.
