Drawing us in with a cerebral frequency and atmospheric ad libs, expanding into a melodic and meditative synthscape with delicate piano notes, Carla Patullo opens her collaborative single, Fly Under, featuring Martha Wainwright with dimensionality and a high emotional quotient.
The opus expands with atmospheric vocals and the lyrics, “I feel you, your shadow, fly under, I’ll follow under your light, under your light…” – we are enthralled by the cohesive tapestry of sound and the luscious energy that transmutes.
A sublime strings arrangement from the Scorchio Quartet emerges, tapping into our heart centre, amplifying the iconic vocal delivery of Martha Wainwright. The evolution of choral vocals further adds to the dynamic and cinematic piece.
There is no doubt that Fly Under would be perfect for a range of sync placements, perhaps a seminal scene in the upcoming season of Euphoria on HBO, or a Sofia Coppola, or Luca Guadagnino film.

As reflected by the artwork, the track holds a celestial energy that feels otherworldly, a fitting exemplification of the wider album, Nomadica. Nomadica includes performances by the Scorchio Quartet, known for work with Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, and David Bowie. It also features the acclaimed choir Tonality, whose collaborators include Björk.
Fly Under, co-written and performed with Martha Wainwright, is the closing track on the album. In their GRAMMY acceptance speech, Patullo, Wainwright, and the Scorchio Quartet honoured their mothers, to whom the album is dedicated. With Nomadica, Patullo earned her second consecutive GRAMMY Award, winning Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album. The win follows her 2024 GRAMMY for So She Howls.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Fly Under to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the entirety of Nomadica, and anticipate future award-winning releases from Carla Patullo.
