We previously featured Olivia Cox when she served up a tender yet transcendent ode to love, loss, and the quiet beauty of letting go with her single, Goodbye For Now, so naturally, when we heard that the star was back with Made Friends, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Drawing us in with an astral, meditative synth and a pulsating kick drum, Olivia Cox opens Made Friends with atmospheric vocals and a subtle echo as she sings, “Feel the rain, still rushes down my chest, the sort of freedom like I don’t know what’s happening next…”
The opus expands with metaphors and poetic prowess as Olivia shares notions of the human experience and life’s ups and downs. The prose is charismatic and feels authentic, especially with lines like, “Life is funny when it throws me off the edge, I swim right up to the surface and start all over again, again, again, and wait for the next blow to the head…”
Olivia tells us, “It speaks of modern life and accepting it how it is despite struggling with getting what you want. It’s a modern take of just getting on with it/ It is a feeling and alliteration of drowning in turbulent waters then fighting to the surface to push forward over and over.”

We deeply connect with the intelligent songwriting that manifests, and Olivia’s dimensional soundscape has a cinematic edge. Made Friends would be perfect for a range of sync deals, notably a coming-of-age TV show like Euphoria on HBO or My Life With the Walter Boys.
Recorded in Northern Ireland with producer Aaron Brennan, Olivia cites the Beatles and Amy Winehouse as sonic influences, but it is clear that Olivia’s sound would sit perfectly alongside modern stars like Tate McRae and Addison Rae.
“There’s only one outcome if you quit and there’s only one outcome if you keep going…” shares Olivia through spoken word in the final moments of the song. We love the wisdom that transmutes with the track – it feels empowering and cathartic, as Olivia Cox invites us to pull through and embrace the ups and downs.
Perfect for a January release, we have added Made Friends to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream Goodbye For Now, and anticipate future releases from Olivia Cox.
