Establishing the mood with a soulful guitar performance, textured drums, saxophone riffs, and an astral organ, Mista2U opens Pizza Man with situational prose with a metaphorical narrative as he sings, “It’s Friday night, and she’s alone, the lights are out, but her mood is on, scented candles in the air, soft music and wine, she just got out the shower and meat is on her mind, she’s ready for some pepperoni, inside her stuffed crust…”
We are immediately enamoured by the concept of the song. It’s cheeky, yet genuinely sensual. The figurative allegories are intelligently written and Mista2U‘s portrayal as the Pizza Man comes across as genuine, rather than cheesy (pun intended!).
There is a cinematic allure that manifests with the track – sure it could be perfect for an SNL episode, but it’s also kinda perfect for a romantic comedy like Girls Trip or a Tyler Perry movie. We love the vocal harmonies, and the timeless nature of the soundscape.
The instrumental performances are sublime, and given space to shine in a stunning interlude where the guitar becomes the main protagonist before a brilliant finale, showcasing Mista2U‘s epic range.
On his influences, the Dallas-based artist confesses, “Pizza Man draws inspiration from classic R&B and hip-hop artists who [have] mastered double entendres and playful seduction, such as R. Kelly (for sensual delivery and bold themes), Akinyele (for humorous explicit wordplay in tracks like Put It in Your Mouth), and modern influences like Trey Songz or The-Dream.” We can also feel bit of LL Cool J‘s iconic song Doin’ It in there!
We love the flirtatious innuendos and the classic style that comes to life with Pizza Man. Needless to say, we have added the track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from Mista2U!
