We previously featured Stephani Ezatoff when she invited us to connect with the frequency of gratitude and Source energy in her sublime reimagining of God Will Open The Windows Of Heaven, so naturally we couldn’t wait to hear her latest release – a cover of Precious Lord Take My Hand, and share our experience with you.
The opus opens with an emotive piano performance before Stephani Ezatoff shares her captivating and bold vocals, accompanied by soft drums and a dynamic electric guitar accompaniment. The choral harmonies add emotional depth to the piece, which feels timeless and important.
There is no doubt that Precious Lord Take My Hand shares a zeitgeist message at a time when we need it the most. In essence, the song is a heartfelt prayer for guidance, comfort, and strength in moments of deep exhaustion and hardship.
The lyrics share how we might feel worn down by life’s struggles – tired, weak, and facing storms and darkness – and invite us to turn to God as a source of stability and light. It is a plea to be led, held, and guided. The prose expresses a desire not to face suffering alone, but to be supported through fear, uncertainty and emotional pain.
On a deeper level, Precious Lord Take My Hand also reflects themes of mortality and hope beyond this life. References to life “almost gone,” night drawing near, and standing at the river suggest the approach of death and the crossing into the afterlife. The repeated desire to be “led home” conveys trust in divine care, portraying faith as a gentle hand that guides the soul safely through life’s final passage and towards peace.

Speaking on the release, Stephani Ezatoff confesses, “I recorded Precious Lord Take My Hand with massive respect and a ‘tip-of-the-cap’ to Thomas A. Dorsey, fully aware of the incredibly tragic place from which this song was written. It is a song that tells about fully relinquishing oneself to Jesus, asking Him to ‘take my hand, lead me on, help me stand,’ and it was vital to treat this recording with great reverence, dignity, and grace as an act of praise.”
For reference, Thomas A. Dorsey wrote Precious Lord Take My Hand from a place of inconsolable grief after the loss of his wife and newborn son. Stephani Ezatoff not only honours the profound spiritual weight of the hymn, but brings her own universal warmth to the performance, inviting us all into a deeply personal connection with God.
We have added Precious Lord Take My Hand to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Stephani Ezatoff‘s conscious, growing discography, and anticipate future releases from the visionary artist.
