9 o’clock Nasty return with thought-provoking social commentary on evocative new single, Too Cool

Following an incredibly creative 2022, subversive superstars 9 o’clock Nasty are back at the top of 2023 with a brand new single, Too Cool, and we couldn’t wait to experience it!

What we love about 9 o’clock Nasty is their unparalleled ability to create social commentary through their lens of wisdom and experience, and Too Cool is no exception! Setting the tone with rolling drums and a classic rock guitar melody, we are immediately drawn into the opus.

The band sing evocatively, “He’s the low fat Jesus, the indie king, he’s too cool for school and all the childish things…” as the paint a picture with their words, not dissimilar to the concept of their single, Team Player.

Speaking on the release the band describe Too Cool as “a stripped down snarl. Raw flesh, pulsing blood with a beat to kill for”, and naturally we are inclined to agree! They ask introspectively, “Can you be TOO COOL? Probably. We keep pushing the limits, we haven’t found the edge yet.”

We learn that Too Cool is 9 o’clock Nasty’s first collaboration with Quebecois music producer Hugo GT, known as “a man with six strings where his raw black heart should be and the cultural awareness of an aroused weasel doped up on illegal substances.”

As always the multi-disciplinary band has released a music video for the song – a film noir epic showcasing a mesmerizing performance from the trio as they bring to life the energy of the track.

We are forever fans of 9 o’clock Nasty and constantly impressed by their dedication and output – a band that knows themselves well and the themes they sing about – raw, and authentic talent. Too Cool has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream their expansive discography!
