Before we even get into the main body of the review, our interest in covering Weekday Social‘s single, Five Years or So was piqued when we noted that the song comes in at an aligned 5 minutes and 5 seconds in length. It was even release on the 5th of July! This level of detail is what we truly admire in artists, and it is usually independent artists that are able to channel this conscious numerology into their creativity, and so naturally, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience of the track.
Drawing us in with an intricate guitar soundscape, Weekday Social open Five Years or So with the situational lyrics, “I live in a world of my own, been lonely for five years or so, I know where I want to go, in the end I don’t really know…”
In essence, Five Years or So explores notions of isolation and emotional detachment. The song paints a portrait of someone living inwardly, disconnected from others and uncertain about their direction.
There’s a quiet loneliness running through the prose, paired with elements of self-awareness. Running away becomes the central metaphor, and as time passes unnoticed, the rush of movement briefly makes us feel alive, even as we remain trapped in cycles of avoidance and darkness.
The final section eventually taps into the vulnerability beneath the detachment, commenting on the fear of how others perceive us, guilt about being unreliable, and the desire to disappear without causing pain. Weekday Social capture the tension between wanting connection and wanting to vanish. It ends on the realization that escape offers fleeting relief but no real resolution. This in itself feels cathartic.

The band confesses, “This is a song about feeling a little lost in your mid-twenties, coming back from a trip away and feeling bored by the daily routine of my life at that time.”
As for the production, the band manifest a timeless indie-rock energy, perfect for a range of sync deals – the high emotional quotient that comes to life makes the track perfect for a scene at The Bronze in the upcoming reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
We learn that Weekday Social is a London-based indie band, led by Louise Higginbottom, alongside bandmates Gavin and Ben. Five Years Or So was recorded at Bonafide Studios in Muswell Hill. Having played renowned venues such as the Dublin Castle, Signature Brew, and Spice of Life, Weekday Social are quickly establishing themselves as a standout act on the London indie scene.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Five Years Or So to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Weekday Social, including Signals, and Fake It.
