Drawing us in with dimensional progressive-jazz meets hip-hop soundscape with horns, textured drums and keys, iLLLogick opens Stiff Person Stories: (Part 1) with the dynamism, instrumental mastery and charisma that we have come to appreciate from the rapper, particularly following our deep dive into his joint album with Grim Logick, Cipher Chronicles: The Network Archives.
The opus kicks off with a series of announcement ad libs, “Yeah, iLLLogick, Stiff Person Stories, Part. 1, Stiff Person Syndrome…”, before sharing the self-realized prose, “I’m not the same iLLLogick that ya’ll want me to be, it’s the same self-project I’m evolving indeed…”
Essentially, the song is about iLLLogick (also known as artist Dylan Collins) living with Stiff Person Syndrome, which is a rare neurological disorder. He explains how this affects his body and mind through causing muscle stiffness, spasms and severe pain. The track feels as educational as it does personal as we learn of his trauma. iLLLogick contrasts the invisible nature of the disease with the very real physical and emotional struggle that manifests with it.
He references treatments and medications that he takes, such as Valium and Baclofen, which helps him to manage his symptoms, but still don’t actually cure him. This feels symbolic and metaphorical on a wider societal level and serves as a commentary on the pharmaceutical industry and how they do not address the root cause.

iLLLogick details the harsh reality of chemical dependency. He references the side effects and the frustration of living with pain that traditional medicine cannot address. The poignant lyrics also touch on the challenges of growing up with a disability, including lack of support from the system. This is another relatable theme, and truly, Dylan is sharing his art as activism in this sense.
Beyond his personal experience, the song raises awareness for others with similar invisible illnesses. iLLLogick acknowledges the difficulties of diagnosis and encourages empathy by highlighting that these conditions are aggressive, physical and hugely misunderstood. The message is both personal and communal, and offers solidarity to those who are silently suffering.
The instrumental outro is sublime, and we look forward to hearing the rest of the story from iLLLogick! He says, “One in a million people have this condition, and for the first time, they have an anthem that speaks their language without translation. This track also launches a series documenting every aspect of living with an invisible disability. We’re rejecting the typical ‘struggle to triumph’ narrative because chronic illness doesn’t work that way.”
On the sound design, Dylan adds, “The sparse, haunting soundscape forces you to lean in rather than pushing sound at you. Those dusty jazz samples aren’t nostalgic; they’re ghostly. The boom bap isn’t celebratory; it’s methodical, mimicking the repetitive nature of chronic symptoms.”
We have added Stiff Person Stories: (Part 1) to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY and TIMELESS playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of iLLLogick, and of course, the epic Cipher Chronicles: The Network Archives!
