We are always thrilled to have the chance to experience a new Skar de Line release, so naturally, when we heard that the star was back with The Screen, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Captivating us with a brutalist, industrial synthscape, we are shocked into Skar de Line‘s cerebral universe from the outset. The echoing vocals manifest with a poetic prowess that is metaphorical and profound. In essence, The Screen serves as a dark and introspective song about loneliness, obsession and self-justification.
Skar de Line portrays a twisted love story of notions that exist in our minds. It explores the tension between desire and control. Through the haunting electronic beats and cinematic textures, the genre-expansive opus reflects on how we grapple with memories, choices and self-sabotage. It is all symbolized by the idea of holding someone “perfect” behind a screen.
As for the songwriting, it is genius. Something that we have come to expect from the intelligent artist. The track would be perfect for an episode of the new Interview with the Vampire series, or even a Blade sequel. It’s giving prog rock, nu-metal meets pop hybrid vibes, and reminds us of a specific Disturbed song called Forsaken from Queen of the Damned. We love the meditative middle eight moment, and the eventual rebuild with the bridge into an explosive finale that rings out thematically like a mantra.

The upcoming music video, filmed in London (we noticed the Leake Street Tunnel scenes!) and Stockholm, expands on Skar de Line‘s robust creative vision. Shot in cold, empty streets, the music video follows the light that guides Skar de Line through darkness. The imagery is designed to mirror the song’s emotional intensity, as with all of the visionary artist’s releases.
Skar de Line continues to prove himself as a complete creator and multi-disciplinary powerhouse. He writes, directs, edits and produces everything himself. This undeniable creative control gives his project a unified and authentic energy.
Naturally, we are in awe and look forward to seeing the music video in full. In the meantime, we have added The Screen to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Skar de Line, including Inside, and Vignette.
