An incredible, high concept artist that we have been featuring recently is Exzenya, so naturally, when we found out that the rising star had released a new single called Ugly When You Love Me, we were curious to say the least and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Drawing us in with a dimensional soundscape with astral textures, vocal samples and sweeping percussion details, Ugly When You Love Me opens with an almost choral subversion. The track expands with Exzenya‘s dramatic flair and signature vocals – this time reminding us of Cher, but also as if we are experiencing the narration of a psychological thriller.
The bright pulsing synth intertwined with Exzenya‘s cerebral and somewhat anger-driven prose is alarming and has us on the edge of our seats. The opus feels both visceral and visual, serving as a confrontation disguised as a confession. In essence, it transforms the notion of love’s illusion into something corrosive and human.

Since its late-July 2025 release on Audiomack, the single has surpassed 535,000 streams, with Spotify numbers steadily climbing toward 60,000. Distributed through her independent imprint, Exzenya Productions, the release strengthens the artist’s growing catalog of dark, intelligent pop.
Visually, the song’s artwork is a bleeding, withering rose over a ghostlike face, designed to mirror the track’s core theme: beauty collapsing under its own deceit. It’s gothic minimalism with purpose. A psychologist and entrepreneur at age 56, Exzenya is defying the industry’s obsession with youth, and channeling decades of experience into her fearless creative independence.
Naturally, we are in awe, and have added Ugly When You Love Me to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream Exzenya‘s growing discography, and anticipate future releases from the star.
