Establishing the mood with a dimensional, classic rock soundscape featuring an astral synth, epic guitar performance and textured drums and bass, DownTown Mystic opens Somebody’s Always Doin’ Something 2 Somebody with a familiar tale as we experience the lyrics, “Well you know that ever since the world began, and God created woman from the rib of a man, when Eve tempted Adam and led to the fall, and ever since that day nothing’s changed much at all, because somebody’s always doin something to somebody…”
The opus expands with an driving piano performance, cementing a timeless rock and roll frequency and high energy level. We appreciate the charisma that the track exudes, the key change adds a high emotional quotient to the piece, and the hook resonates like a mantra.
The 60s adjacent ad-libs make the track perfect to sing along to, and the layered vocal harmonies and echoes add dynamism and pizzazz! The instrumental performances are nothing short of masterful and keep us enthralled!
There is a philosophical depth to the message of the track, which we learn is part of an upcoming six-track EP titled, Mystic Highway, out November 7 via The Orchard/Sony Music. The project is designed to encapsulate everything that makes DownTown Mystic special, which is in essence, authentic, guitar-driven rock rooted in the golden age of Americana, yet undeniably modern in its energy and polish.
Somebody’s Always Doin’ Something 2 Somebody was written and produced by Robert Allen, engineered and mixed by Joe DeMaio at Shorefire Studios, and mastered by Leon Zervos at Studios 301 in Australia. The track features Robert Allen on lead and harmony vocals and electric guitars, Michele Weir on harmony vocals, Jeff Levine on Moog, piano, and organ, Steve Holley on drums and vibraslap, and Paul Page on bass. The Shoop-Shoop Singers are Michele and Robert. The AI video was created by Richard Levinsohn, with title and credits by Vien Nguyen of Tinderbox.
Beyond the new EP, 2025 has been a big year for DownTown Mystic. His mix of “vintage yet modern” rock has reached new audiences, and his songs have been featured in over 250 TV shows and films, including Everything’s Going to Be Great with Bryan Cranston and Allison Janney, and Sovereign with Dennis Quaid and Nick Offerman.
Looking ahead, 2026 promises even more for the rocker. DownTown Mystic will kick off the year with the On E Street Remix Project, featuring Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent from Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Somebody’s Always Doin’ Something 2 Somebody to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we anticipate the release of Mystic Highway on November 7!
