Establishing the mood with textured drums, bass guitar and a pristine pop vocal, Julia Kate opens be nice princess with a timeless energy and the situational, introspective lyrics, “Questioning why it′s me doing all the calling, before I realized it was me you were ignoring, traffic lights, city bites, dinners end at midnight, people stare, like they care, it’s all a show don′t cry about it…”
The opus briefly expands with a hypnotic guitar melody before the production pulls out to unveil the cerebral line, “They all said I wasn’t a good singer anyway…”. We are immediately enthralled by the universe that Julia Kate is creating. Her poetic prowess is tangible, and the emotional quotient that she writes with is both high and self-reflective. She is unafraid to perceive herself, and this level of authenticity is what makes her artistry stand out.
In essence, the song is about notions of heartbreak and betrayal. Julia Kate feels ignored and unappreciated by someone she cared deeply for. She reflect on the emotional pain caused by being dismissed and blocked. There’s frustration and anger towards the arrogance of her former friend and muse.
The lyrics describe them as acting superior, like “royalty,” and Julia wants them to realize the consequences of their behaviour. There’s a mix of sadness and bitterness in her poignant observations. Ultimately, the song is about letting go whilst still hurting. The repeated advice hook to “be nice, princess” appears to be both sarcastic and a warning.
The song comes with a pastel-toned and whimsical Alice in Wonderland-inspired music video, juxtaposed with darker, more dramatic street scenes, which further expands on this theme, mixing humour, heart, emotion, and self-respect to manifest Julia’s own cinematic reality and showcase her acting chops.
The cinematic allure that the track holds makes it perfect for a range of sync deals, notably a scene in a coming-of-age TV show like My Life With the Walter Boys, or perhaps even a movie like Love, Sex & 30 Candles!
Written with collaborator Nick Rosen during a moment of creative boredom, be nice princess evolved from a simple Instagram quote into the song it is today. Following her August 2025 single angel, which explored grief and connection, this release highlights Julia’s emotional range, vocal range and lyrical honesty.
Naturally, we are in awe, and have added be nice princess to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream angel, i wish i knew (one more kiss), and beverly hills, and anticipate future releases from the rising star!
