Drawing us in with a pristine R&B vocal performance, Anthony Campbell opens Oceans with poetic prowess and the observational lyrics, “You’re waving all those red flags, hiding all those bad acts, talking all that trash, like you are a class act…”
The opus expands with the hook, “I wave you off like oceans…” as Anthony Campbell asserts his boundaries with reference to a romantic connection. The track feels like a mantra, an anthem of self-realization and maintaining one’s autonomy and power.
We appreciate the star’s range, charismatic depth, and the cinematic allure of the track. There is no doubt that Oceans would be perfect for a range of sync deals – perhaps a coming-of-age TV show such as Euphoria or a film like Girls Trip 2.
Anthony confesses, “I wrote this song on my own. I’m really kind of a loner when it comes to my music. But music is my life, and I pour my soul into my lyrics. I like to base my songs on real-life experiences that others can relate to.”

He adds with authenticity, “I draw inspiration from the experiences I go through in life. I’ve dealt with a lot of hurt and pain – people being dishonest, backstabbing, and thinking I wouldn’t notice. I’ve seen that it happens a lot, which is why I decided to write a song about it. I think everyone has met someone like that at some point – a friend, a colleague, even a family member. I’ve learned that the best and only way to deal with those kinds of people is to walk away as fast as possible – wave them off like oceans.”
We deeply connect with the metaphorical depth and intention that Oceans exudes, as well as Anthony Campbell‘s poignant and empowering message. Fans of Frank Ocean, and Normani will be able to connect with what the Dutch rising star is sonically manifesting.
Naturally, we have added Oceans to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from Anthony Campbell!
