We recently featured RISE when they took us on a transcendental trip with cinematic and introspectively empowering single, Dreams, so when we heard that they were back with Lost For Words, we couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in their universe once more and share our experience!
Drawing us in with a boundless 80s adjacent energy with fierce guitars, astral synths and bold drums, RISE open Lost For Words with poetic prowess and a strong pop vocal with the words, “It’s your move, so I’ll wait, we bare our souls until we seal our fate…”
There is an undeniable nostalgia that manifests with the iconic sound that RISE are bringing to life. We feel transported and at the same time, we appreciate the progressive mix and refined 2025 sonic design that feels futuristic.
There is a cinematic allure to the track – perfect for a range of sync deals – a contemporary reimagining of Knight Rider perhaps. We are enthralled by the high octane energy that manifests, and could imagine driving or working out to the track!
Speaking on the deeper message, the band tells us, “The song is a commentary on the breakup of a relationship, in which one party is literally Lost For Words on being told “it’s over”. Rather than sinking into despair, the response is to say, OK “I’ll move on”. It takes a potentially negative situation and turns it into a positive outcome. We have all been dumped, this is our take on the notion of being better off out of the relationship.”
We love the philosophical depth of the prose, coupled with the vibrant energy. The Michael Jackson-esque out breaths are also divine – a small touch, but super referential and keeps us enthralled throughout.
The band highlights Brian Petch’s bright, intricate guitar work with standout solos, stayMellow’s powerful and emotionally expressive vocals with rich harmonies, and Alex Mahoney’s precise, driving drumming. Written by Paul Kinley, the song was recorded at Whitewood Studios in Liverpool and co-produced by Rob Whiteley and Kinley.
Naturally, we have added Lost For Words to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of RISE, including Dreams, and See It In Your Eyes.
