Establishing the mood with an atmospheric synthscape and vocal ad-libs of “da-da da-da-dum, Tik Tok Tik Tok”, Oliver Sullivan opens Tik Tok with an almost mediative pop energy before sharing a sublime vocal performance from Scarlett as she sings, “Pulse loud, mind stuck, slow down, why rush, just let it all out… Faint sound, low hum, locked eyes, no words, gotta make this one count…”
We are immediately entranced by the production and the thoughtful, introspective prose. A textured riser builds to a dimensional beat as Oliver and Scarlett share a boundless mood with a transportive and authentic vibe. The melody reminds us of Nelly Furtado‘s iconic song, All Good Things, which is a great reference!
Speaking on the release, Oliver confesses, “Tik Tok [is] a high-energy track that captures the rush of nightlife and the fleeting moments we all want to hold onto.” There is no doubt that the song is perfect for a night out, the gym and the dance floor!
Oliver’s layered sound design manifests with precision, and the track glows with a unique, late-night frequency. It serves up a rush that we don’t want to end, much in line with the message of the lyrics. The story itself is simple yet strong. The notion that time is slipping feels zeitgeist for the collective. Beneath the glitter, there’s introspective reflection. It’s fun, but with feeling.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Tik Tok to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we immerse ourselves in the cinematic lyric video, and explore Oliver Sullivan‘s wider discography, including Dreaming in Color, and Summer on Me.
