Setting the tone with intimate guitar arpeggios, $ir Decay opens Mind Games with a high emotional quotient, expanding with poignant and introspective prose and a captivating delivery. The opus feels raw and authentic as $ir Decay shares his soul with poetic prowess, accompanied by a dimensional beat.
We appreciate the genre expansive nature of the track – fusing rock and rap, tapping into elements of 2000s nostalgia. As for the lyrical depth, we connect with $ir Decay‘s emotive core and the intensity of what he conveys with the song. It feels relatable, and almost cinematic – perfect for a teen drama with a similar theme – perhaps the upcoming season of HBO‘s Euphoria.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the release, the self-created artist confesses, “I was going through a tough time in my relationship and it was getting really low about it, and the best way to let it out is in music, as besides her I have nobody else.”

We learn that Mind Games is the start of a new chapter in $ir Decay‘s artistry, stepping away from the hard trap, phonk and boom bap style that has defined much of his catalogue. The song balances chaotic production decisions with uncut and vulnerable vocals which capture the intensity of his inner conflict. By leaving in imperfections such as audible breaths, $ir Decay adds an unpolished honesty that makes the song resonate even more.
Fans of Josh A, iamjakehill, and NF will recognize the influences, but there is no doubt that $ir Decay is manifesting a sonic universe unto his own. Recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely in his bedroom, the track highlights $ir Decay’s growth. His message is simple – “don’t be afraid to be a little different, different is unique”.
Naturally, we are in awe, and have added Mind Games to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream $ir Decay‘s growing discography, including BLOOD, and Buried in the Chants.
