Establishing the mood with a moody bass performance and cerebral ad libs, Amayah opens One Time with a pristine pop-R&B vocal as she sings the hook, “Baby let me know if you’ll hit it one time, and I can’t let you go, I got you on my mind, but after this just don’t, don’t be blowing my line, just really need to know if you gone hit it one time, one time…”
Amayah‘s delivery is dimensional, captivating and fierce. Her sentiment feels authentic, and it is clear that the star is writing from a place of lived experience, detailed with refined high hats and an evocative soundscape.
In essence, the song is about casual, short-term romance. Amayah wants a one-time physical connection with no strings attached. There is a clear focus on empowerment and desire, but she also asserts her boundaries!
One Time feels progressive, also explores a sense of playfulness and indecision in relationships. Both Amayah and her muse are portrayed as enjoying attention from multiple sources, which feels like a natural and contemporary commentary on the polyamorous nature of human beings. There’s a recognition that hookups can be fleeting and that people often play games in modern dating.
Speaking on the release, produced by J Stacks, Amayah confesses, “One Time is fun, bold, and real, exactly the kind of energy I’ve been stepping into as an artist and woman. I make music for people who want to feel confident, free, and unforgettable.”

The star also tells us, “I intended for this track to go to an artist like Doja Cat, so I put a lot of eccentric energy and flows on the song. I ended up really liking how everything came out and got to keep the song for myself.” We could definitely hear Doja on this, maybe she can hop on for a verse in the future, but we love that Amayah kept it for herself!
We learn that One Time was born out of a writer’s camp hosted by CMG Breezy, where Amayah teamed up with J Stacks, who brought a full studio setup from North Carolina that made her vocals sound nearly fully mixed straight from recording!
We deeply connect with the catchy, summer-anthem vibes, but also the message of female empowerment, celebrating women who enjoy casual flings without drama and flipping the narrative that only men pursue no-strings-attached relationships!
We have added One Time to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Amayah, including RACKS, and SWING BACK!.
