Establishing the mood with an astral melody and subversive drums and guitar, ENAVE opens Broken Promises (stylized as: Broken promises) with a captivating vocal performance and the cerebral lyrics, “So sad, when you stop trust people, so sad, when you listen more words but not action, you just listen voices in your head, which all the time say maybe one more chance?”
The dramatic tension on the track is palpable. We appreciate the poetic prowess and the intentional brand of songwriting from the Ukrainian star. Broken Promises taps into themes of betrayal and the pain of broken trust.
It opens with notions of sadness – realizing that words mean nothing without actions. ENAVE describes hearing voices of doubt in her head, tempting her to give another chance, but in essence, they firmly refuse.
The chorus builds on themes of anger and disbelief. The repetitions of “you liar,” shows how deep the wound goes. The betrayal feels so strong that even ENAVE‘s senses struggle to accept what is happening.
By the end of the song, we back to the same energy of rejection. No more chances, no more listening, no more sympathy for excuses. The repetition makes it clear and the damage is final. We learn that the opus was written at the beginning of the war, and was born as “a raw reaction to a moment of truth, when promises turn into paper ashes.”
We appreciate the ebbs and flows of the vocal performance, especially the transcendental operatic ad libs, the dimensionality showcases ENAVE‘s genre expansive nature as an artist and the raw authenticity that transmutes as she shifts her pain into power.
Naturally, we have added the anthemic and cinematic track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream ENAVE‘s growing discography including, The Time, and Open Your Eyes, and watch the enthralling music video for the song!
