“You put me through so many things, and you will pay the price…” sings GINAxC assertively as she opens My Darkness (Dorian Gray), accompanied by a dimensional dark-pop soundscape. The opus expands with atmospheric vocals, sensual, intriguing and Europop adjacent.
We love the hook, “Living my life like Dorian Gray, beautiful until I step into my grave…” and the layered vocals with looping echoes. The beat drop is sublime, vibrant and evokes the feeling of strolling La Croisette in Cannes at night.
Speaking on the message of My Darkness (Dorian Gray), the Swedish-Balkan artist confesses, “Lyrically, it captures the moment when bitterness and a thirst for revenge start to bubble to the surface – and you embrace the darkness instead of resisting it. As the saying goes, revenge is bittersweet.”
The track comes with a cinematic music video showing GINAxC in her element, bringing the track to life with a gothic vibe. We love her performance, and the intimacy she brings to life with her charisma and message!
Of course, My Darkness (Dorian Gray) draws inspiration from the Oscar Wilde book, but also the 2009 film adaptation starring Ben Barnes and Colin Firth. GINAxC tells us that this is one of her all-time favoyrite movies! She adds, “Just like the film, the track is steeped in shadow and allure: dark, slightly gothic, yet driven by a beat that belongs on the dancefloor.”
Naturally, we have added the magnetic and moody single to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of GINAxC, including Femme Fatale, and Like A Snake!
