Establishing the mood with a reverberating astral bell melody, expanding with a dimensional bassline and immersive synth notes, Jean-Philippe Ruelle opens Switeesoul with elegance and cinematic intrigue. Needless to say, we are captivated by the energy that manifests.
The opus expands with layers and cerebral risers, amplifying drama with syncopated notions and an overarching allure that is rather hypnotising. We appreciate the tempo shift, albeit it nuanced, and the major key accents, before a more trippy and psychedelic vibe comes to life.
There is grace to the composition, but also a sentiment that feels both charming and melancholic and the same – once again showcasing the expansive sonic universe that the composer has to offer. Blessed with transcendence and equally intriguing.
It’s almost as if a magical music box has been opened in an alternative dimension where time shifts between here and another realm. Speaking on the release, the composer says, “Switeesoul rests on a simple, pure melodic line, played on variable layered electronic pianos shaping depth and space. Like the sun rising above the horizon, fleeting colours blend day after day. Switeesoul invites you to a contemplative, soft, and radiant journey.”

We are always in awe of what Jean-Philippe Ruelle creates, and have previously featured a slew of his releases, including Impulsein, The Lake of Signs, and Callpeax. Switeesoul offers a more meditative approach to his song design, which ties in thematically with his wider offering as a composer, but retains its own unique identity.
The sound design of the piece is intricate and elaborate. The notes are delicate and glistening, truly showing the range and unique levels of instrumentation skill and production mastery that Jean-Philippe Ruelle possesses.
Of course, we have added Switeesoul to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the exquisite, growing discography of Jean-Philippe Ruelle, and anticipate future releases from the visionary artist.
