Establishing the mood with a vinyl texture and an haunting piano melody, Hollow Logick opens Mental Illness with a high emotional quotient as he shares ethereal introductory ad libs before conveying his soul and lived experience with poetic prowess and a high octane flow.
From his father beating the soul out of him, stabbing his own friend, hearing voices, pill addiction, lack of sleep, demonic reflections, cutting his wrists and so much more, Hollow Logick not only exhibits and exquisite rap cadence, but his true authenticity.
The production is minimalist, but Hollow Logick exudes maximalism with his delivery. There is no doubt that Mental Illness showcases unfiltered storytelling. We learn that when label owner Grim Logick first heard the track on “The 3NIGMA BRED Vibe, LIVE!”, he cried on camera.
Speaking on the intentional depth of the release, Hollow Logick confesses, “Most artists touch on mental health like they’re afraid to get their hands dirty. They’ll mention depression or anxiety in safe, digestible ways that won’t make anyone uncomfortable.”
The rising star continues, “I went the opposite direction – I bled onto the microphone and didn’t clean it up for radio play. This track is significant because it’s the raw, unedited experience of living with actual mental illness, not the romanticized version the industry sells. When I rap about waking up hearing voices in the ceiling fan, about stabbing friends because paranoia convinced me they were scheming, about cutting my wrist just to feel connection – that’s not metaphor. That’s Tuesday.”

There is no doubt that Hollow Logick is an incredible rapper, and people might compare him to Eminem from a lyrical perspective, or Twista for his fierce and relentless flow, but there is no doubt that the talented artist is manifesting a universe of his own – using his own experience to help himself heal, and in turn those around him. There is an undeniable catharsis to this song, and Grim’s tears are proof of that.
Hollow Logick says, “This is the raw product of dealing with bullshit since the day I was born, and thus, developing what society calls Mental Illness. The influence here isn’t musical – it’s survival.” On his DIY recording process, he adds, “My bedroom isn’t some legendary studio, but it’s where authenticity lives. Sometimes the best art comes from equipment that’s held together with determination and a prayer.”
This powerfully illustrates how authenticity in art can arise from limitation – transforming a makeshift setup into a sanctuary for unfiltered expression. Naturally, we love what Hollow Logick is bringing to life, and have added Mental Illness to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY and TIMELESS playlists, whilst we anticipate future releases from the talented rapper.
