“I don’t wanna be haunted by my sins, free my spirit from this slavery…” sings SAINT MARC as he opens free with a brooding timbre, accompanied by an intimate piano performance, before the opus expands with a dimensional beat, which is crisp and excellently produced – full of raw emotion.
free evolves with a collective “we” energy, as SAINT MARC invites us on a journey of philosophical liberation. A pulsating bass guitar performance introduces SAINT MARC‘s mantra-esque hook, before he shares a spiritual vibe accompanied by a sublime guitar melody.
The track is super dimensional, dynamic and full of creative ebbs and flows – vocal and production switch ups which keep us engaged throughout and coming in at an aligned 2 minutes and 22 seconds (the angel number 222 for balance, harmony, and trust in the universe).
There is intention behind everything that SAINT MARC manifests. free has a poignant and succinct message of acceptance and authenticity – at a time when we need it the most. The genre expansive track fuses a vibrant blend of gospel-soul and African-beat elements. The chorus line is something that we feel inclined to repeat, as it is empowering, anthemic, and liberating.
We learn that the track was recorded at Holy Ground Studio in Västerås, Sweden – naturally the home of pristine music production – which really comes through with this unique and progressive piece of artistry. SAINT MARC recorded everything himself, combining analogue drums and electric bass with samples.

Speaking on his message, SAINT MARC confesses, “In the lyrics I am reflecting upon growing up in a religious environment and what belief systems you just inhale and think is your own. How do I break free from this? I don’t want other peoples thoughts and beliefs influence mine in such a strong way they did in that environment.”
On his inspirations, he cites, “Chilidish Gambino, his African-vibe beats inspired the main beat of the song. David Kushner’s dark voice inspired the vibe of the intro.” Sure, we can appreciate this, but there is no doubt that SAINT MARC is designing a sonic universe unto his own.
We absolutely love free, and SAINT MARC‘s message, and have added the track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the rising star’s debut single, GOLD.
