We previously featured KB-S when he took us on a surrealist and transcendental trip into the realms of peace with The Rain Spoke in Paper Sky, so when we heard that the talented artist was back with The Heart’s Knot, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
The opus draws us in with an intimate guitar melody, expanding with astral riffs and textured drums with an almost orchestral edge as we are immersed further in to KB-S‘s universe. There is a serene and yet dimensional energy that manifests.
The electronic strings add a dramatic edge before reversed record scratches, cosmic bells and a trippy vibe captivate us. A down pitched meditative glitch has us feeling like we are on the roller coaster of life before the captivating melody with the orchestral nuances returns bringing us full circle.
Overall, the piece is brilliantly engineered and composed, the final moment feels like a moment from the movie Avatar, like we are entering another dimension. This manifestation is a common thread with KB-S‘s work as he seeks to not only keep up on our toes sonically, but emotionally show us the expansive nature of music and where it can lead us to in our mind’s eye.

Speaking on the release, KB-S confesses, “The Heart’s Knot came from a moment of emotional tightening – when your chest knots and you don’t know why. The song blends cinematic orchestration with lo-fi textures: timpani, haunted vocals, analog-warped strings. It wasn’t tracked for perfection, it was sculpted to feel fragile, aching, unresolved. It’s part of a bigger narrative across my work, but this one hits close. As I’ve said: some songs you write to say something. Others… they say something you weren’t ready to admit.”
The philosophical depth is tangible, and the raw emotion that transmutes from the piece feels highly authentic. We are always in awe of what the Minneapolis-based creator brings to life with his musical universe, and have added The Heart’s Knot to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream The Rain Spoke in Paper Sky, and anticipate future releases from KB-S.
