Setting the tone with an ethereal synthscape, Blak-Ram opens Blood Gold with a profound spoken word introduction, intentionally shedding light on Sudan in the middle of a proxy war, and the UAE’s Rapid Support Forces. For context, the UAE has been accused by the Sudanese Armed Forces of supporting the Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group engaged in violent conflict with the Sudanese army since 2023, which has led to a civil war and widespread displacement and deaths.
The opus expands with an exquisite and poignant flow from Blak-Ram as he shares his art as activism. His poetic prowess is undeniable and we deeply appreciate the hook, “The blood gold sucking through the soul, running through the hole, coming through the mold, through th killing and the drilling and the spilling of the blood, it’s the gold and the role of the villain and the thug…”
In essence, Blak-Ram, who is a Sudanese British rapper based in the Southwest of England, is manifesting a unique rap style fusing raw emotion with socio-political commentary. Blak-Ram, who is masked in appearance to protect his identity, confesses, “I use a black panther mask to represent pan-Africanism since most of my music is about revolution and fighting oppression.”
He continues, “I am currently documenting the war in Sudan and this latest song Blood Gold is quite a controversial hip hop track. It calls out the United Arab Emirates role in Sudan’s devastating war by way of illegal gold smuggling and arms trafficking to the Rapid Support Forces, a violent militia that has been accused of committing genocide by the ICC.”

Blak-Ram elaboarates, “The hook is catchy but the theme is serious, it’s a mellow summer soundtrack that has been repurposed to shine a light on what’s going on in my country Sudan, through slick flows, storytelling lyricism and clever wordplay and the bass really pops through the speakers.”
We also learn that Blak-Ram is heavily influenced by the personal experiences of his father’s execution by the Omar Al Bashir regime before he was born. We deeply connect with the powerful message that Blak-Ram is sharing, and the philosophical and educational depth he provides with his artistry.
Naturally, we have added Blood Gold to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream Blak-Ram‘s wider discography, including Trauma Waters, and Cruise Control.
