We recently featured HOXSEY as he showcased his genius and innovative nature with the emotional single, Living in Reverse, so when we heard that the talented artist was back with The Introduction of Sgt Capone, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience!
Establishing the mood with a haunting and subversive guitar performance with a spoken word introduction a new government and military objective, HOXSEY opens The Introduction of Sgt Capone with a bleak and dystopian energy. The track evokes a sentiment of unease, before evolving with a more melodic guitar as HOXSEY calls for our “attention”.
The lyrics of The Introduction of Sgt Capone tap into a vivid and chaotic picture of military power, blind obedience, and the violence of war. The concept of Sgt Capone is portrayed as an elusive symbol of aggressive authority.
The marching chants and commands like “OBEY” and “CHARGE,” and images of battle and orders being followed without question invite us to critique how easily society can be swept up in systems of authoritarian leadership and the loss of individual thought in the face of militant obedience.
The evolution of the track is highly cerebral as HOXSEY brings to life a dystopian reality which doesn’t seem too far from home with the waves of fascism that are taking of the planet at present. The opus serves a protest song speaking out against this. We also learn that The Introduction of Sgt Capone is the first part of a three-part music series.
Speaking on the release, HOXSEY comments, “The perpetual war machine has taken over the world! The common man is not in to fighting the power elites wars any more! The industrial complex has steadily grown to enormous proportions the last 75 years.”
We appreciate HOXSEY using his platform for active change, and have added The Introduction of Sgt Capone to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography and anticipate the other two instalments of this series!
