By now, you will know that we are huge fans of Kid of the Star System, having featured the anthemic and dynamic, Horizon Double Negative, and the fierce and dimensional, Sleepwalking. Naturally, when we heard that the high concept and talented artist was back with Stop Taking Orders, we were ready to embrace her universe once again and share our experience!
Opens with an electronic beeping and subtle riser, Stop Taking Orders opens with a bold and assertive energy, thrashing guitars and futuristic vocal design as Kid of the Star System shares prophetic and metaphorical depth.
We mentioned before that fans of Linkin Park would be obsessed with Kid of the Star System and this single is giving Meteora energy with a futuristic edge. The comparison to Linkin Park only feels more zeitgeist with the band’s recent addition of female vocalist Emily Armstrong, which further cements Kid of the Star System sound as extremely current.
As always, the lyrical depth is intelligently crafted and the melodic nature intertwines perfectly with the rapped elements. Her flow is rapid fire, rivalling massive A-list rappers and her vocal timbre from a singing perfect is harmonic perfection.

As for the message, we learn that Stop Taking Orders is designed to channel defiance “against societal expectations and celebrating the power of independence.” The song even includes a spoken word interlude with philosophical prose discussing the laws of the universe.
The intention? To inspire us to “break free from conformity.” We can imaging Kid of the Star System headlining Reading, Leeds and Glastonbury festivals. Her presence and aptitude is undeniable and we are ready to form a mosh pit and vibe with the baddie.
If you are just discovering her now with this post, then you will want to know that there is more refined genre expansive material from the artist, including the previously released Laws of the Universe EP in 2019, as well as her first album Pi r2 in 2021, featuring Right With Me, Me VS, and Make Your Move – all of which we continue to stream!
2023 saw the release of her second album Luminous, which we covered tracks from and we are ready to experience more! Naturally, we have added Stop Taking Orders to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to experience Kid of the Star System‘s growing sonic universe!
