We recently featured Trash Pals for their high concept and philosophical song, Sonya, so when we heard that the talented LA duo was back with Dust It Off, we were curious and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience!
Establishing the mood with textured drums and fierce electric guitar, Trash Pals opens Dust It Off with a timeless energy, reminding us of early No Doubt. The opus expands with a cerebral tale and metaphorical, situational prose as Trash Pals take us on a journey through their minds, with the intention to empower us to get back up!
Dust It Off encourages resilience and the ability to bounce back after facing setbacks. The lyrics, focusing on themes of perseverance and renewal, resonate with us on a personal level, providing motivation to shake off past difficulties and move forward. Emotive melodies, a strong beat, and dynamic instrumentation including a captivating middle eight and epic, albeit short, guitar solo, further enhance this message, creating an emotional journey from struggle to triumph.
The song’s empowering effect is amplified by its ability to foster a sense of community among those who have faced similar challenges. This shared musical experience creates solidarity and mutual support, making the message of resilience even more powerful. The narrative structure of overcoming adversity, combined with the repetitive nature of music, reinforces the positive message, making Dust It Off not just a piece of entertainment but a source of lasting motivation and encouragement.
They tell us, “Dust It Off is about being okay with the inevitable truth that sometimes life will knock you off your feet and drag you down the street; the question is whether or not you will get back up and give it another shot.”
Trash Pals is an indie rock duo comprised of the versatile artists Conor Rayne and Gabe Schnider. Their warm, upbeat songs invite listeners to embrace their emotions, whether navigating the complexities of loss, dancing with abandon, or experiencing everything in between. Meeting as homesick kids at summer camp, Conor and Gabe have shared a friendship for nearly 15 years; their music reflects their deep trust and serves as a means to process life’s joys and challenges.
With Conor’s impressive work with Brasstracks, Chance the Rapper, and Mark Ronson, and Gabe’s virtuosity showcased alongside Wynton Marsalis and Jon Batiste, Trash Pals has already garnered critical acclaim, and bring a fresh and captivating sound to the stage.
The band cite sonic inspirations for Dust it Off including The Stooges, Thin Lizzy, The Marksmen, The Presidents of the United States of America, Bad Brains, Cende, King Tubby, and Bjork, but there is no doubt that Trash Pals are creating a holistic message of their own.
We love what Trash Pals are creating, and have added Dust It Off, which is the perfect song for Hollywood movie synch deals, to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the growing discography of the creators, and anticipate future releases!
