The opus expands with poetic prowess and padded drums as the star shares his evocative range, laced with hooks and a relatable overarching theme. Read Your Mind is a vibrant, funky pop song designed to get us moving – whether it’s dancing or at least head-bopping for the more rhythmically challenged among us.
The track dives into the early stages of dating, capturing the confusion and excitement of interpreting mixed signals from a new romantic interest. Despite the underlying anxiety of not knowing where you stand, the song remains upbeat and infectious, featuring groovy bass lines, smooth guitar licks, and crisp gospel-inspired backing vocals.
We learn that the inspiration behind Read Your Mind came during a songwriting session with Cian O’Donoghue and his good friend Molly Cartwright. Cian was sharing his bewilderment about a girl he’d been on a few successful dates with, who had suddenly started ghosting him, sometimes leaving his messages unanswered for days. To cope with the confusion and lighten the mood, they turned the experience into a fun, relatable song.
Cian confesses, “I was talking about how this girl I had been on a couple dates with, dates that had gone well, was now not opening my messages, sometimes for days. I was completely dumbfounded as to what was going on and so we wrote this song to make light of the situation.”
This single marks Cian O’Donoghue’s seventh release. Building on the success and momentum of his previous hits Love Russian Roulette and Better Guy (featuring Ivon Roberts), Cian is poised to continue his upward trajectory. With four more songs planned for release in 2024 and live gigs on the horizon, Read Your Mind is set to be a significant addition to his growing discography, offering fans another reason to dance and smile.
