Make Time takes us on a contemplative and dimensional trip with dynamic and masterful opus, Belong

Drawing us in with textured percussion, a meditative frequency and synth arpeggios in a minor key, Make Time opens Belong with atmospheric vocals and introspective prose, manifesting a cohesive and somewhat dramatic tapestry of sound.

The opus expands with a dynamic bassline as Make Time ponders, “I’m lost, where do I belong…”. The composition takes on a cerebral edge with glitched vocals, and pitch changes, showcasing the dimensional range of what Make Time offers.

We appreciate the ebbs and flows of the track, as well as the airy risers and drum and bass adjacent nuance. There is no doubt that fans of Grimes and FKA Twigs will be able to connect with Belong, although it is certain that Make Time is designing a sonic universe of his own.

Overall, the piece feels neuroplasticity enhancing, with intricate switch ups that keep us enthralled throughout. The strings arrangements towards the finale are sublime, and we love the almost ascension-esque outro of the composition which leaves us yearning for more.

Speaking on the release, Make Time confesses, “Belong is a about wondering where one belongs, and revelling in the feeling of not belonging somewhere. It’s sad yet epic, and suited for intent listening as well as dancing.”

We learn that Make Time’s curiosity for music production started fifteen years ago, and is the brainchild of creator Teun de Wacht. Make Time cites a diverse range of influences including Overmono, Pangaea, Amor Satyr, Aloka, Lexer, and Parra for Cuva, which we can feel come through in his artistry.

Teun de Wacht, reflects further on his creative process, by saying, “When I start a song, it slowly condenses into a unique blend of genres. I let this happen and stay open to any experiments, engaging with small mistakes to build them into creative and unique concepts.”

We love what Make Time is creating, and have added Belong to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to explore the star’s wider discography, including his 2024 EP, Jacob, and anticipate future releases from the visionary producer.
