Setting the tone with textured drums and astral vibraphone tones, with an evocative trombone and cerebral percussion nuance, Roman Angelos, who has newly signed to Music Factory Records, opens Motorbike Journey with intrigue and a dimensional energy. The opus expands with a serene and meditative flute, further amplifying the notion of a trip in line with the title of the track.
We appreciate the instrumental mastery, and the cinematic nature of the composition, which brings to life a vivid and somewhat cosmic reality. We learn Motorbike Journey is designed to serve as “a pleasant introduction to the world and approach of Roman Angelos”.
Experiencing the vibraphone on Motorbike Journey feels like a spiritual experience, tapping into a realm beyond the physical senses. When we listen to its resonant tones, we are not merely hearing sound; we are connecting with something ineffable, something that transcends the ordinary. The vibraphone’s shimmering notes dance through the air, creating an atmosphere that invites introspection and contemplation. Its unique timbre evokes a sense of serenity and wonder, drawing us into a state of heightened awareness.
In the wake of the triumphs of his dual opuses, Music for Underwater Supermarkets, and the comprehensive remix anthology Supermarkets, Underwater, Roman Angelos beckons us into the nocturnal realm with his upcoming record, Tropical Nites.
Crafted amidst a Key West sojourn, the album’s motifs were birthed in a solitary vigil, perched upon a hotel veranda under the moon’s solemn gaze. Within its melodic tapestry unfolds a tableau of forsaken thoroughfares and midnight haunts, where the echoes of deserted taverns mingle with the sighs of solitary souls. Fans of Ennio Morricone, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Brian Eno, and Philip Glass will be able to connect with the record, although there is no doubt that Roman Angelos is creating an identity of his own.
Roman Angelos serves as a creative outlet for producer Rich Bennett‘s fascination with vintage library recordings, muzak, and exotica from the 60s and 70s. Alongside this project, Bennett has been involved in various musical endeavors, spanning from reuniting with The Shaggs, an outsider/60s proto-punk group, to contributing to dream-pop outfit Mahogany and Brazilian funk ensemble Limoncello.
His previous releases under the Roman Angelos moniker have garnered acclaim from online platforms like Freq and Electricity Club, as well as in printed magazines such as Electronic Sound, Hi-Fi World, and Shindig! Additionally, his music has received airplay from BBC6 Music personalities like Gideon Coe, Cerys Matthews, and Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone, as well as from Bob Fisher of BBC Tees.
We love the direction that Roman Angelos is taking with Motorbike Journey and Tropical Nites, and we have added the lead single to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to immerse ourselves in his discography, and anticipate the upcoming album!
