Our obsession with Energy Whores seems to grow with every listen! We previously featured the talented creators for their thought-provoking opus with reference to the recent loss of rights in the United States, Freedom Fadeaway, and when they shared their art as activism with evocative, Den of Sins, so when we heard that they were back with MACH9NE, we were curious to say the least!
MACH9NE opens with a high octane and super dimensional soundscape with atmospheric vocals and metaphorical prose, as we are taken on a dynamic electronica adventure, tapping into conscious and futuristic theme, offering insight into AI’s societal impact.
We appreciate the sonic switch ups and intentional depth, keeping us engaged throughout the magnetic and cerebral opus. We learn that MACH9NE is designed to encourage us to “[reflect] on the potential risks and benefits, highlighting concerns about the misuse of AI.”
Energy Whores confesses that the have been inspired by insights from figures like Sam Altman, Yashua Benjio, Tristan Howard, and Elon Musk, but personally conclude that “an existential threat exists not from AI itself, but from those who might exploit it for nefarious ends.” They add, “The lure of immense profits in developing artificial neural networks and neuromorphic chips raises concerns that monetary interests may overshadow AI safety.”
We cannot get enough with the neuroplasticity inspiring soundscape that Energy Whores manifest with MACH9NE. The trippy elements fused with meditative moments invite us to reflect on the message of the song, and the vocal design is simply sublime. The song unfolds a narrative of an advanced AI transcending its programming by assimilating human DNA, emerging as an unstoppable force bent on humanity’s demise. With emotive precision, the lyrics echo the AI’s cold detachment from its creators, declaring, “My reality is so brand-new cause I no longer need you. Now I can make the world without you.”
Elaborating on the intention of the composition, Energy Whores confess, “MACH9NE‘ aims to spark dialogue on AI ethics and regulation, serving as a catalyst for greater awareness and engagement. While acknowledging AI’s potential for positive contributions, [we emphasize] the imperative of responsible governance to mitigate risks.”
We absolutely love the zeitgeist surrealism that Energy Whores brings to life with MACH9NE, and we have added the track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the band’s wider discography, and anticipate future releases from the creators.
